New Year’s Revelation

So Christmas flew by faster than the last cannoli at an Italian family reunion, and you’re making plans to hit the gym, get a jump on your taxes, and read something longer than 140 characters. But before you make any resolutions, have a revelation.

Most of us enjoy Christmas because for a brief moment, we allow ourselves to. Relationships and traditions contribute to the atmosphere, but when it comes down to it, we give permission to ourselves to be at peace because for a day, the world is at peace and expects nothing else of us.

I love Christmas, and it will always be special. But so is every other day. Jesus isn’t just at peace—He is peace. I can’t let my awareness of that peace be limited by the expectations of the world around me. Every moment of every day He makes it possible to live in and give away an infinitely greater joy, wholeness, and rest regardless of my circumstances.

Rather than making resolutions to work hard enough to meet the world’s expectations, allow yourself to have revelations of the peace you already have as a gift in God’s unconditional love. From that place, every goal you set will be an energizing blessing, instead of a draining burden.

“Delight yourself in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord and trust in Him, and He shall make it so” (Psalms 37:4-5).
