Every day is a gift to be experienced and shared, an opportunity to be blessed and to be a blessing. I know it doesn’t always feel that way, though. It often seems like more is being taken from you than you can give, and there’s more pain than pleasure.
Here is the brilliance of joy. Joy is no transient, childish emotion. Joy is your permanent reality in Christ. You can’t avoid pain in this world, but joy empowers you to keep it from being in charge of your life. Joy makes failure an instructor, rather than an identity. Joy opens your awareness of heaven’s limitless resources and strategies. Joy knows God’s love so deeply, no circumstance can frustrate who he wants to be in your life, or who you’re becoming in him.
Take a few moments to put joy in charge of your thinking again. Begin by thanking God for everything in your life until joy is bigger than anything else you’re facing today. Including a blizzard.
