Saint Patrick was born in Britain in the 4th century. At 16, he was captured by pirates and sold as a slave in Ireland, serving as a shepherd. He escaped after six years. His time of captivity deepened his faith in Jesus Christ, and years later He felt God calling him back to Ireland as a missionary, where he spent the rest of his life serving as a different kind of shepherd.
If you want to honor Saint Patrick’s Day well, take time to let God show you how He wants to transform the most difficult parts of your life into the most powerful parts of your identity. You’re not just a product of your experiences. You are the sum of your Father’s love.
“From now on, we choose to see no one according to their outward appearance. We once saw Christ only as a man, but we now know him for who he truly is. If anyone is in Christ, he or she is a new creation. The old has passed away, and behold, the new has come! This is from God, who through Christ brought us to himself and gave us this ministry of reconciling people to Him” (2 Corinthians 5:16–18).
