The habits God wants to free you from aren’t primarily behavioral. Behavior will follow identity. The enemy, and your own negativity, keeps trying to make you see life from the perspective of your life before Jesus, so you’ll keep managing and medicating yourself in your own strength. But God wants you to grow in your new life in Him, completely free of your old mindset.
Your permanent state in Christ is never dependent on a temporary condition. Break the parasitic links between peace and adversity, hope and pain, joy and failure by letting His Spirit of grace and truth be in charge of how you see yourself, your relationships, and your life. Don’t subsist another minute on the lies of fear, when you can thrive in the grace of your Father. Displace the habits of your old life by allowing Him to train you in the ways of His kingdom.
“I want to do what is good, but I don’t. I don’t want to do what is wrong, but I do it anyway . . . what a miserable person I am! Who will free me from the life dominated by sin and death? Thank God! The answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 7:19, 25a).
“For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two–edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires” (Hebrews 4:12).
“Anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone, and a new life has begun!” (2 Corinthians 5:17).
“Be strong and of good courage! Don’t dwell on fear, or be discouraged, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go” (Joshua 1:9).
