There’s a Better Party

I generally avoid posting political thoughts, because they can be so divisive, and take far more life than they give. But I’ve had one thought building for days I’m letting loose:

Being a Christian doesn’t make you immune from being influenced by a political spirit, a spirit which wants you to stop valuing every person as God does, and only accept those who agree with your political opinions, and your judgments of those who don’t. A political spirit wants to twist your faith, hope, and love into dogma, propaganda, and a relational litmus test.

If you want to check yourself for political heartworm, honestly ask yourself how you see those who disagree with you. Do your political convictions help you to honor others, or do they make you want to rip someone’s head off? Do you genuinely love those who may despise you, seeing them with the value God does, or do you look at them as soulless, expendable nothings you’re willing to destroy to tear down systems that make you insecure?

In this broken world, it’s easy to forget your spirit isn’t a member of a political party. Your real identity is a citizen of heaven, and more than that, a royal heir to an eternal kingdom of love. So be that. Then you may influence the political realm with life, instead of letting it corrupt yours.

You can live in reaction to hell, or in response to heaven. It depends on which world you most want to represent and reproduce.
