Pieces to Peace

“The servant who received five large deposits of money invested them, and earned five more. The servant with two also doubled them. But the servant who received one dug a hole in the ground, and hid his master’s money, because he was so afraid of losing it (Matthew 25:16-18, paraphrased).

I love the parables Jesus taught with, but this one is always on my mind. When the three servants were asked for an account of what they’d been entrusted with, it was so much about what value they’d added to the world, sourced from their love and trust in the one who’d invested in them.

No one can avoid experiencing loss, failure, or a broken heart. What makes the difference in how you’re going to live going forward is how you’ll respond when God asks you for the pieces. Rather than burying the shards and avoiding people, trusting him with your own heart is a big part of how you invest love and life into others’ hearts.

You can hide your identity and all God has entrusted to you in a hole dug with fears of loss and failure. Or, you can recognize all the opportunities he’s giving you to invest in others the healing, grace, joy, peace, faith, hope, and love Jesus has invested in you.
