The Way Through

“Satan has desired to sift you like wheat” (Luke 22:31). The kind of sifting Jesus was referring to was hitting the grain with a stick, and tossing it in the air until it completely came apart. Anyone else feel beat up and thrown to the wind like that sometimes?

But.

Don’t give in. Not to fear, frustration, rejection, persecution, or the pain that comes with them. Jesus says the same thing to you he did to Peter: “But I have prayed for you, that your faith would not fail” (Luke 22:31-32).

Your faith is sourced in God’s love for you. Not in perfect performance, or people’s approval, but in his love. He’s inviting you to be transformed by the revelation of that love, so much so it overwhelms and heals all the enemy has said or done, and gives you the joyful confidence to live this day brilliantly, no matter what the path looks like.

I know that seems easy to say, when the path ahead looks rough, and the door leading to it seems unfairly small. I think Jesus said the way is called narrow because of the 360 degrees you could go, there’s just one he’s inviting you to travel with him. It may look different than any path you’ve seen, untrodden and challenging, and the little gate leading to it requires you to leave your baggage behind. But in just a few steps you’ll find it’s exactly the way, truth, and life your unburdened heart has been dreaming of, and what the enemy has been working so hard to discourage you from.
