Rich in Hope

One of the greatest dangers of focusing on what you don’t have, rather than what you do, is that you forget you have access to unending faith, hope, and love, and every fruit of the Holy Spirit. You see only what a problem might cost the old you, the exhausted you who felt alone to deal with everything out of your own limited, dwindling strength. But spiritually, you are rich and powerful. Rich and powerful like you’ve inherited Apple and Amazon, and Bill and Melinda Gates just adopted you.

When asked for money, Peter and John said they didn’t have any, but what they did have healed and completely changed the life of a man who’d never walked (Acts 3). That’s what you get to do, what you’re infinitely resourced for. Regardless of who’s officiously waving his or her authority around, when you’re aware of who you are in Christ, you’re the most powerful person in the room. No matter what spirit of poverty you encounter, you have access to the living wealth of heaven to equip, empower, and transform lives. Starting with your own.

  1. What I do have, is so much more valuable than what I don’t have. One thing I am glad of is that God has always gotten me out of the pit. He never leaves me there.
