Transformation Day

I was reading Psalm 62, and something jumped out to me. It may be a subtle difference, so much so it disappears in most English translations. But to me, it’s powerful, and so encouraging.

“He alone is my rock and my salvation, my defense. I won’t be greatly shaken.

Let my heart and mind, my very soul, wait in quiet, confident rest in God, for my all hope is in him. He is my rock, my salvation, and my defense. I will not be shaken” (vv. 2, 5-6).

The psalm starts out with David saying he believes God is a protector, but he still feels overwhelmed by people who carelessly accept and spread lies about him. They say nice things to his face, but behind his back they curse him. We’ve all experienced how debilitating lies and betrayal can be.

But then David turns his thoughts to God again. He focuses his mind, will, and emotions on who God is. He silences the anxiety and frustration by seeing all the Lord has been in his life. His definition of hope transforms from an outcome his pain, anger, and fears demand, to a confident expectation of seeing more of the goodness of God. That shift transforms his mindset, and his perception of all he’s facing. I think his second “I won’t be shaken,” is a declaration of faith in God’s love for him.

You don’t have to just survive today. No matter what you’re facing, this can be a transforming day with God, a day to increase your ability to live in God’s peace, power, and his love for you. You get to exchange your pain, bitterness, and fears for his peace, grace, and joy, transforming how you see God, yourself, and your circumstances.

Each opportunity you take to agree with all God is for you, who he says you are, and what he says is possible in your circumstances, is upgrading your ability to bring yourself to a place of peace faster and faster. No matter what today holds, God is equipping you to transform it with him.
