You have challenges to overcome, tasks to complete, and circumstances to deal with, but none are burdens from God to lay on your shoulders until they crush the life out of you. You never have to carry what he says is his to bear—the outcome of other’s lives, the results of prayers, and the unknown future.
Man’s burdens can constrain, stress, and exhaust. But God’s burdens transform, equip, and empower you. It’s the difference between dragging a thousand rocks in an iron box, and bearing the weight of your own wings.
God’s burdens for you do have a price: your whole heart. But the exchange that occurs when you say ‘“yes” to him is the very essence of being born again. It’s the surrendering of impossible weights that no one could bear but him, and the certainty that the new creation you are, and are becoming, is not just free from man’s burdens and sins, but is blessed to live the brilliant life God intends for you.
“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly” (Matthew 11:28-30, MSG).
