Sometimes our battles are with the enemy’s lies, and others are with pain and loss. But most of our fights are with our own negativity—with old habits and self-destructive patterns of thought. As soon as you let the enemy, or that negativity, twist your perception and sabotage your thinking, your world shrinks down to a dark endless tunnel, like looking backwards through a telescope. God appears distant, unreachable, and uncaring. You begin to reject who you are because nothing in your life seems good anymore. Lies and loss become almost impossible to fight off.
Be fiercely, unyieldingly thankful for every blessing in your life. Thankfulness displaces negativity, making way for God to fill you with strength, hope, peace, joy, wisdom, confidence, and his goodness. That’s your new mindset, your new normal. Everything you see in gratefulness and goodness opens your heart to greater revelations of his love for you, and expands your vision of what his love looks like in your life. And that’s who you really are.
“Without an ongoing revelation of who God is for them, people lose all sense of identity” (Proverbs 29:18a).
“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever” (Psalm 107:1).
