The Other Direction

What do you do if you live in an area full of pain, poverty, corruption, bitterness, and negative thinking?

Live in the opposite spirit.

How do you deal with being around those who judge your heart, and try to limit your identity?

Live in the opposite spirit.

What worth can you add to worlds which consider your world worthless?

Live in the opposite spirit.

The opposite spirit turns from looking for what’s wrong, fearful, and chaotic, and focuses on what’s true, good, and peaceful. It stops wishing for God to make others change, and receives his transforming grace every day. It stops wanting God to vindicate your judgments, and accepts his training in living out his blessings. The opposite spirit embraces his renewing strength to live each day, rather than relying on a wounded sense of duty.

The opposite spirit faces corruption by living in honor toward everyone. It stops fixating on what others have that you don’t, and celebrates the incomparable resources in Jesus you do have. The opposite spirit doesn’t retreat into fearful self-pity, but confidently takes steps in faith, hope, and love. The opposite spirit stops speaking negatively, and instead declares what God is saying about everyone and everything.

Live in the opposite spirit.

“Fix your thoughts on what’s true, honorable, right, pure, beautiful, and good. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Keep putting into practice all you’ve learned and received . . . and you will always have the God of peace with you” (Phil. 4:8-9).
