Pick Your Battleground

Most of your life you’ve heard you should pick your battles. But just as important is choosing your battleground. The enemy will do anything to get you to abandon the limitless strength of God’s presence to exhaustively strive on the bloody fields of bitterness, hopelessness, and fear. But the fight you’re facing is so much easier to win in God’s peace, joy, and love for you, where the enemy has no power.

I’m writing this for myself more than anyone else. There are times I have to make the decision to fight the battle from God’s perspective every day. Sometimes every hour. And I have to remind myself that if I fail, I don’t have to stay in the enemy’s territory to punish myself. I can return to God’s presence immediately, and let him restore his love, joy, and peace in me. It’s not always an easy thing, but it’s always, always worth it.

“‘Don’t be afraid,’ the prophet answered. ‘Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.’

And Elisha prayed, ‘Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see.’ Then the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha” (2 Kings 6:16-17).
