King David wrote at one of his most painful times it was like walking through the valley of the shadow of death. If you’ve been there, you know it can feel like your only options are to trudge aimlessly in voiceless desperation, or surrender to the pain and lay down to die alone.
But a difficult season doesn’t mean God has forgotten you. Just the opposite. His plans and provision for you are always greater than the problems around you. He is so brilliant at turning negative circumstances into opportunities to heal, renew your mind, and learn to thrive in the overcoming life he has for you.
I know this place is dark, but just ahead there’s a treasure you can’t find anywhere else. By refusing to let despair lead you away from Jesus, you’ll see he’s leading you to his wilderness feast.
As overwhelming as your circumstances have been, he really is with you, and is inviting you to sit down—to heal and recover, and to eat and talk with him. In the middle of all your difficulties, he wants to teach you how to be completely at rest in his love for you, to grow in his truth and grace, and to live in such peace, you can lose your fear and joyfully invite those who consider themselves your enemies to eat with you.
Soon, at this table in the wilderness, you’ll be able to see for every negative you’re facing, God has prepared far greater opportunities for healing, growth, and breakthrough. Those opportunities are like signposts, and pursuing them one after another will lead you out of this place, to a life far more powerful than the one you had when you went in. What the enemy intended to kill you with, God will use to make you fully alive.
“Even when I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me.
You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies. You honor me by anointing my head with oil. My cup overflows with blessings.
Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the Lord forever” (Psalm 23:4-6).
