You hear all the time how important it is to take charge of your own physical health, but neither is anyone else responsible for your spiritual and emotional states. When you quit letting past circumstances define your limits, and present ones determine your mood, that’s the moment you finally leave the prison you’ve sentenced yourself to, and walk in the genuine freedom Jesus has for you.
Remember that the battle is really over your identity. Stop blaming others for the condition of your heart, and recognize what’s been trying to suck the life out of your truest self. Focus instead on what gives you life, and increases clarity on who you know you are, and what you want to be.
“This means anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone, and a new life has begun!” (2 Corinthians 5:17).
“Tenaciously stay in the liberty with which Christ has set you free, and don’t let yourself get burdened again by your past life’s bondages” (Galatians 5:1).
“I will walk in freedom, because I will listen to what you say, and follow you wherever you go” (Psalm 119:45).
