Statistically, this week is supposed to be one of the most depressing for people—it’s cold and dark, and the post-holiday blues and already failed resolutions add to the malaise of many. But that’s not you. The Christmas you, the one who lives in wonder, excitement, freedom, joy, peace, and who is so intimately connected to God—that’s who you are.
Just because the calendar says Christmas is over, it doesn’t mean you have to be a different person. In fact, this is Epiphany, commemorating the magi finding Jesus. No one’s really sure how many there were, or how long after Jesus was born they made it to Bethlehem. But when they did, the astonishing revelation of the love of God they received defined the word “epiphany.” No matter how political, religious, hateful, hurtful, or just plain weird people get this year, you get to have your own epiphanies of God’s love as often as you let him show them to you.
Stir up the real you. The Christmas you. Focus your heart and mind on your true identity in Christ, and overflow that everywhere you go today. No matter how dark and depressing things seem, you get to live in so much of God’s light and joy, you become part of the epiphany people are looking for.
“You are the light of the world” (Matt. 5:14a).
