Let Peace Rule

God’s kingdom is “righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit” (Romans 14:17b). That doesn’t mean there won’t be hardships and pain. Obviously. It means Jesus will always provide a grace that’s greater than the pain, and a way to live that’s more powerful than the hardships.

God’s peace in particular has been on my mind through all we’re going through. “Let the peace of God rule in your heart” (Col. 3:15a). I’ve written about this verse before, because it’s one of my favorites, but it seems more important than ever.

“Rule” doesn’t mean God wants to control your heart. Just the opposite—God wants to empower your heart to see and live your life brilliantly, regardless of what’s happening around you. Letting God’s peace rule in your heart means peace becomes the judge of the truth and value of every thought, and the interpreter and navigator of every circumstance.

His peace sees what’s true, what’s good, and what choices will keep you moving forward in his love, joy, and wholeness. His peace is your decision-maker; wherever his peace is, that’s the direction to go. It’s your reality check, reset button, and your confident hope no matter what the anxiety ruling in the hearts of others may say.
