Overcoming the Bully

Are you a bully?

You may be the nicest person to everyone . . . except yourself. If you constantly self-criticize, put yourself down, anxiously over-analyze your decisions, abuse your health coping with the fear of failing, and call yourself names for not performing well, then you’re the bully in your own life.

If the enemy can’t kill you, he’ll try to frustrate, frighten, and fatigue you into torturing yourself. But you’re not going to let him do that any longer. Rather than giving in to anger, fear, and exhaustion, you’re going to give them to God. You’re going to let him restore your heart, renew your mind, and strengthen your body.

Even if you don’t have all the answers you want, you’re going to focus on what’s good in your life, and on who God wants to be for you right now. You are created for joy. For life. For love. Resist any opposing voices by asking Jesus to show you how he sees you. Agree with him. Speak well to yourself. Encourage and build yourself up in his love.

You are his child, not a burden, a mistake, or a failure. You are brilliant, powerful, and perfectly loved. You’re not just going to survive—you’re going to live so fully in his presence, the overflow of your amazing life is going to heal, bless, and transform the bullies along your way.

“So, chosen by God for this new life of love, dress in the wardrobe God picked out for you: compassion, kindness, humility, quiet strength, discipline” (Colossians 3:12, MSG).
