More Than You Asked For

When you pray for peace, God invites you to develop a mindset of rest by focusing on his presence, regardless of what you’re facing.

“You enable me to rest in green meadows, and lead me to streams of peace . . . Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me” (Psalm 23:2, 4a).

When you pray for joy, God gives you opportunities to rejoice in all he is for you, until you’re able to overwhelm any negativity with the opposite spirit.

“The Lord is my shepherd, so I have all I need . . . You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies. You heal, protect, and honor me by anointing my head with oil” (Psalm 23:1, 5a).

When you pray for strength to go on, God deals with the roots of all your fears. He transplants your heart into his, so you can live, move forward, and grow your identity in his love.

“You renew my strength, and guide me along right paths . . . my cup overflows with blessings. Your goodness and unfailing love will always be with me all the days of my life” (Psalm 23:3a, 5b-6a).

God doesn’t just supply you with what you think you need to survive. He is completely intent on growing you into the powerful, thriving person he sees in you. As you talk with him today, he’ll be equipping you with all the peace, joy, and strength you’ll need to be amazing.
