Tolerance isn’t the neutralizing of all beliefs to the lowest common denominator. All that produces is a groupthink culture that shames and punishes those who don’t conform. Genuine tolerance is loving you as much as I love myself, even if I think what you believe is bat-crap crazy.
“You think God is distant and wrathful because the same sin that caused the need for the law interprets life-giving words like ‘love your neighbor’ as ‘hate your enemy.’
But I’m telling you—love your enemies! When someone spits their pain at you, respond with grace, blessing, and prayer. The more you do, the more you’ll know the true nature of God is love, and as his child, so is yours” (Matt. 5:43-45, paraphrase).
