Please don’t ignore common wisdom. We all like the idea of finding “the secrets,” bits of knowledge few have discovered, passed down in code from ancient times. Yet all around us the most important things are evident:
Count your blessings.
For every good thing in your life you set your thoughts on, more appear. There are moments of hope, kindness, joy, healing, peace, trust, acceptance, security, and grace throughout your life you’ve forgotten about that just need a little intentionality to fill you again with all of them.
Love is the best thing we do.
Love is mostly a philosophical concept until you do something with it. Take every opportunity you have to express appropriate love to others. And yourself. And if you miss or refuse an opportunity, take the next one. Don’t let fear, offense, or a lie win. Love really is the best thing we do, and the best thing you can do for yourself (keeping in mind sometimes healthy boundaries are necessary, and you shouldn’t let yourself be a target for someone else’s unhealed issues).
Jesus loves me, this I know.
Not just because the Bible tells me so. Because I’ve experienced it. No matter what’s going on in my life or in the world, no matter how little things make sense, this is the very base of my foundation, my mental and emotional reset in the greatest wisdom of all.
