“There were those around the people of Judah that set out to discourage them, and make them too afraid to go on building. They bribed officials to work against them and frustrate their plans” (Ezra 4.4).

‘Afraid’ here doesn’t just mean frighten. It means to cause someone’s mind to be cast down in fear. It means to terrorize people to the point they forget who they are, and whose they are. In Daniel 7, it says of the enemy that “he shall speak against the Most High, to try and wear out the saints of the Most High”.

You are not a victim. You are not insignificant. You are not a failure. You are not powerless or worn out. You are not constrained by past or present pain. You are not the shattered remains of your sins. You are the whole of God’s love.

You are the son or daughter of the Creator of the universe. You are a new person, completely transformed by your faith in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. You are an heir of His grace, wisdom, and power. You can distinguish between the heart of God and the lies of the enemy, and move forward in confidence. In every circumstance and relationship, you are healing, learning, growing, thriving. You are empowered to overwhelm hate with love, chaos with peace, and loss with joy.
