For anyone struggling with having enough faith for what you’re going through:
“It’s impossible to please God apart from faith. And why? Because anyone who wants to approach God must believe both that he exists and that he cares enough to respond to those who seek him” (Hebrews 11:6, MSG).
Faith is hard—impossible—if you define it as adherence to doctrine and tradition. It becomes a burden of belief which no human strength can sustain, no matter how many rules and potlucks try to prop it up.
But the faith God is looking for isn’t initiated by you. The substance and evidence of faith begins with his faithfulness toward you. Faith does require your agreement, but it’s not a burden, it’s an unending blessing you receive in the fullness of his love, and give away in the overflow of his hope.
Pleasing God isn’t about how well you perform in your own strength, it’s how you respond to his daily invitation to heal, grow, and love in his.
