New Year’s Revelation

One of the reasons many of us like Christmas so much is because we give ourselves permission to actually be at peace. For one brief moment, the world which so often sucks the life out of us expects nothing more of us than to enjoy our relationships and traditions.

I love Christmas, and it will always be special. But so is every other day. Jesus isn’t just at peace—he is peace, and I can’t let my awareness of that peace be limited by the expectations of the world around me. Every moment of every day he makes it possible to live in and give away an infinitely greater joy, wholeness, and rest regardless of my circumstances.

This year, rather than making resolutions to work hard enough to meet the world’s expectations, open your heart to revelations of how amazing God already thinks you are. Allow yourself to live and grow in the gift of peace you already have in him. From that place, every goal you set will be an energizing blessing instead of a draining burden, and, you can genuinely enjoy a cookie once in a while.

“Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit all your ways to the Lord, and trust in him. He will help you” (Psalm 37:4-5).

  1. My thoughts exactly. Thanks Rob. Too often I have looked at the new year with work mentality. This year, I want to look at it with new and better ways.To find joy everyday. To live more in tune with God in new fresh ways. To read His word with new sight. Change is good. Eat the cookie and think renewed thoughts. Happy New Year!
