Delightful Year

As you walk a little further into 2020, take a moment to remind yourself one of the most important parts of your spiritual journey is delighting yourself in God. “Delight” may seem like an outdated word, but I don’t think there’s a more powerful one for approaching a new year.

Delighting in God is the joyful intentionality of discovering who he wants to be for you in this season, and who you’re becoming in him. It’s letting your heart and mind be continually transformed in that joy, and in all the love, grace, peace, kindness, and goodness that comes with it. Delighting yourself in God is trusting him with your past, present, and future, letting him speak life into every part of your life.

If you start every day focused on all you have to deal with—especially on what might go wrong—you’ll get overwhelmed and burned out. But if you’re centered on a purposeful awareness of God’s presence, his joy becomes yours, strengthening you with all you need to make this your best year, no matter what’s ahead.

“Trust in the Lord and do good. Then you will live safely in the land and prosper. Delight in him, and he will give you your heart’s desires. Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust him, and he will help you” (Psalm 37:3-5).
