Keep a Burning Heart Without Burning Out

Just a thought for those who’ve felt burdened down, or even burned out, trying to pray for and minister to people:

Please remember to not let yourself get so overwhelmed by the needs, you forget to whom you’re praying. You can get so focused on what’s wrong, you turn prayer and ministry into systems to deal with it all, rather than seeing them as doors to encountering God.

Remind yourself that when you pray and minister in his name, it’s not a spiritual incantation or a religious checklist, but simply an overflow of being in his presence. It’s being so aware of who he is, and in such agreement with what he wants to do, you naturally bring transformation to the lives and circumstances in front of you, out of the transformation in you.

Take a deep breath. Refuse to stress about results and trying to figure out ways to get them. Just spend time with Jesus. Listen. Give him that ten-ton need to fix everything you’ve been carrying around. Then let him show you what he sees, and what he’s saying about it. Love and bless everyone in agreement with that, and leave the results to him.

“For as the waters fill the sea, the earth will be filled with an awareness of the glory of the Lord” (Hab. 2:14).
