When you get attacked over and over, it’s hard not to be completely overwhelmed by the struggle. The enemy of your soul wants you to stay so focused on your battles you’ll think about nothing else. He wants you to relate to the world through them, define yourself through them, and be exhausted by them. He wants you to accept the wounded, worried, and weakened version of yourself as your identity.
But it’s not. You aren’t condemned to a weary, unfulfilled existence. In Jesus, you are brilliant, joyful, peaceful, and strong. Every day he invites you to see yourself as he does, a person so amazing you can disempower most of the conflicts around you just by being your true self.
Ask God who you are outside your battles, and let his truth fill you so much that his presence overwhelms your struggles. You’ll see that though difficult circumstances and the negative behavior of others may challenge you, your joy, peace, faith, hope, and love are never at their mercy.
“But Jesus said to me, ‘My grace is enough for you, for when you’re weak, I’ll always give you the strength you need.’ Once I got that, I quit obsessing over my struggles, and joyfully focused on letting Christ strengthen my life” (2 Corinthians 12:9, paraphrase).
