“What are you imagining about God?” (Nahum 1:9).
The enemy wants to erode your faith. Not in religion, I don’t think he cares much about that. But in God’s character and nature. If he isn’t good, then he doesn’t really care what happens to you. If he isn’t kind, then grace needs to be earned, and whatever you do will never be enough. If he isn’t love, then you’ll always have gaps in your life you’ll suffer to fill.
The enemy will say and do anything to warp your experience with God. From the very beginning, it’s been, “Did God really say that?” (Gen. 3.1) If he can diminish how you see Jesus, then he’s diminished how you see yourself. Instead of growing as a powerful, joyful child of God, you decay into a frustrated, wounded orphan.
“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, so much that he calls us his own children!” (1 John 3:1a). “See” in this context means to behold, perceive, apprehend, to grab hold of the truth and never let go. And the truth is that you are completely, unceasingly, wildly loved.
Imagine that.
