Patrick was born in Britain in the 4th century. At 16, he was captured by pirates and sold as a slave in Ireland, where he was made to serve as a shepherd. He escaped after six years. His time of captivity deepened his faith in Jesus Christ, and years later he felt God calling him back to Ireland as a missionary, where he spent the rest of his life serving as a different kind of shepherd.
